Growing up I have never had a brother or sister that was around my age, but I did have Afenah. Afenah is my older cousin on my mom’s side who is older than me by a year and two days. We have known each other for our entire lives and used to spend a lot of time together. We were even close when she moved to Virginia. When we were both outside in Virginia all we would ever do is chase lizards, and have cookouts in the sweltering heat of the summer. I would go to her house for a month in the summer, then she would come for a month at my house, then for the last month we would just stay at our own homes to prepare to go back to school. When I was over in Virginia all we would ever do was play video games, chase after fast crafty lizards, and have cookouts. When she was in New Jersey, all we would ever do is ride bikes, go to the park to work out, practice cooking in the kitchen, and well, play video games. I remember a time, two years ago in fact, my Mom, my Aunt Shaniek (Afena’s Mom), Afenah, and I all went on a luxurious vacation to the Bahamas. First my mom and I hopped on a train to Virginia, where we then met up with Aunt Shaniek, and Afenah. From Virginia we traveled down to Florida, where we went to a very comforting hotel for slumber. The next morning, after we arose from our slumber, we checked out of the hotel and drove to the cruise ship. The ship had an arcade, buffet food court, a water slide, humongous pool, and so many other things we didn’t even get to explore due to the fact that we only had a week. The restraint was one of my favorite features because of its Red Lobster type atmosphere. When we finally arrived at the Bahamas after three days of sailing, it rained. Afenah and I trotted back to the ship to explore as much as we can in the little time we had left, while our moms stayed out to go souvenir shopping. Three days later, we arrived back in Florida where we stayed at an even more extravagant hotel. After dropping off Afenah and Aunt Shaniek, we took a train back home. Although Afenah and I don’t talk as often anymore, we stay in touch over the phone and social networking websites. We don’t see each other quiet as frequently as we used to but we do see each other every other summer or so. I will never forget all of the great times we had in our past, because growing up I never had a brother or sister around my age, but I did have Afenah.
